About Heads In Bits

Heads In Bits LLP is a two-person, self-funded UK games studio. No publisher, no investors, and nobody to answer to but each other about what gets built next.

Our first game, Chess Force Armada, has been four years in the making. It's chess for up to four people, on a battlefield that's different every time, where the ground is worth money, some of the squares are mined, and nobody — kings included — is safe. It's in testing and polish now, ahead of release on Steam.

Neither of us is "the designer" or "the programmer". We're both hands-on across the whole thing — we agree up front who's taking what, and then get on with it.

Four years in, we're still here because making it is the fun part — and because we keep thinking of one more thing to put in. It shows in the game: there's nearly always one more switch to flip, one more way to set it up.

Buy it once, keep it.

We don't run servers you depend on. Chess Force Armada doesn't need anything of ours to keep working. Single-player and pass-the-controller local play need nothing but the game itself, and online play rides on Steam's own networking — there's no separate service of ours to switch off.

We support Stop Killing Games — the push for publishers to stop leaving paying customers with a game that quietly stops working. If you own a copy, it's yours to keep playing.
